Gastric Sleeve

Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Sleeve Gastrectomy, also known simply as gastric sleeve or VSG, is a safe and effective weight loss surgery that involves reducing the size of your stomach. The portion left behind is referred to as a “sleeve” that will now serve as your new stomach. To minimize incisions and shorten recovery time we perform gastric sleeve surgery in Mexico via laparoscopy through four small abdominal incisions.

The Procedure

A gastric sleeve surgery weight loss treatment from Shape You Want in Mexico involves cutting and removing approximately 70 to 80% of the outer portion of the stomach. The new slender, banana-shaped stomach will help you feel full sooner. This is because the smaller stomach restricts the amount of food the body is physically able to take in.

Usually, surgeons end the procedure after reducing the size of the stomach. They opt to use the staple line as support. However, the gastric sleeve surgery team at the Monterrey Gastro and Bariatric Group in Mexico takes an additional step. We use the inverted gastric sleeve method to push the staple line in and sew the new stomach onto itself for additional strength.

Gastric sleeve surgery is a 45-minute laparoscopic procedure. Our surgery takes place at the renowned Christus Muguerza Sur Hospital. When the grastric sleeve surgery weight loss treatment is over, you will spend two nights here in Monterrey Mexico for post-surgical care, observation, and recovery.  Afterwards, you will be able to travel back home.

Within 5 days after surgery, you will be able to restart normal activities. However, we recommend that you resume low-, medium-, and high-intensity workouts after 1 week, 2 weeks, and 1 month, respectively.

Benefits of the Gastric Sleeve

This popular weight loss surgical method is a very safe and effective option. Patients can expect to lose anywhere from 50% to as much as 70% of their excess body weight within 6 to 12 months after a gastric surgery weight loss treatment from our facility in Mexico.

Moreover, this procedure helps reduce your food cravings. This is because we remove the part of the stomach where the Ghelin hormone its produced. This hormone, also known as the “hunger hormone”, is responsible for increasing appetite.

Our inverted gastric sleeve technique yields additional benefits besides weight loss, it reinforces the sleeve to prevent any leaks and helps the new stomach from easily stretching in the years to come.

This is a shorter weight loss surgical procedure as compared to the gastric bypass. The nerves of the stomach and the outlet valve (pylorus) remain intact to maintain normal stomach functions and we perform this surgery laparoscopically with the aid of a small camera and only through four tiny abdominal incisions.

Cure obesity related issues with gastric sleeve

Gastric sleeve surgery in Mexico can affordably help with many obesity-related problems. Patients often report improved health and management of various issues. This surgery can cure conditions such as diabetes, sleep apnea, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure. In fact, most of our patients report that they were able to stop taking medicine for these issues shortly after having surgery.

Moreover, the excess weight loss will relieve pressure on your muscular and skeletal systems.  This will help reduce or eliminate pain in your joints, back, neck, knees, and hips. Thus, you will be able to increase your walking and exercising activities.

There are even more benefits beyond that. Women will be able to have healthier pregnancies. Patients will lower their risk rates in common digestive and endocrine diseases such as colon cancer, pancreatic cancer, and endometrial cancer. Post-menopausal breast cancer risks are also decreased.

Please note that sleeve gastrectomy is only part of your weight loss journey. You will have to employ significant dietary changes for effectiveness as well as the betterment of your health. Because of the reduced stomach, you will be limited to only a few ounces per meal. It will be quite a lifestyle change; however, you will be on the path to a happier, healthier life.
